Mission gruel. I'll tell you what, I, I have a quick question for everybody real
quick. How many people love peace, like calm, serene. Hold your hand up if you
love like peace in your life, stress-free days, days where you could raise them
high, like everything's like, like, look, you're Gonna get a workout today, OK?
All right, I'm a little different. All right, so go ahead, raise your hand. Keep
them up. Everybody loves peace in your life. OK. Now, now, keep them up, keep
them up, keep them up. All right. Now, keep them up if you are currently living
in that beautiful, peaceful, serene moment right now. Some of you, the rest of
you feel me, right, this. See, we all want peace, don't we? We all want peace.
We want peace. That's what we're gonna be talking about today, but I, I think
peace. He's a little bit flawed in our definition because what we believe peace
is like, we believe peace is like that beautiful beach where you're on the
beach, everything's gorgeous. The waves are coming in. Oh, that's so beautiful,
right? Some of you think peace is not a beach, you think it's like up in Payson
where you get to Payson or Prescott, and you're like a babbling brook goes by,
you're like, oh look, honey, right? They believe that is peaceful, or some
people believe straight up that peace is like a really a big bank account that I
can do pretty much whatever I want. That brings me peace. But our definition is
flawed. Because we think peace is something that we can create if our
circumstances become perfect. Let me say that again. We think peace is something
that we can create or build if our circumstances become perfect. We don't know
each other like you saw Pastor John, great pastor, by the way, who I've gotten
to know to know a little bit during this journey that my wife and I are on and
the 180s are out here. 180s, where you at? Can make some noise, 180s. Yeah,
there you are. All right. So, uh, I've gotten to know Pastor John and we're
building this church in in North Phoenix. God has asked us to plant the church.
My wife and I have been in ministry for 16 years, and he's like, hey. You know,
you guys are just stupid enough to go ahead and say yes. So we're gonna go build
a church out there in the North Phoenix area. And you know what, in this
journey, I've gotten to know Pastor John pretty good. And Pastor John, if you,
if you don't know, he is a meme king. Like anybody know this about Pastor John,
that, that he is, like he, he creates some serious memes, you guys don't know,
so I'm actually outing him right now. All right, so the deal is, is like he is
so good at memes, and so he's very funny and he AIs some stuff, you know, for us
and makes us laugh and stuff at at at Vision Arizona. But I will say this, what
is true and really, really evident in Pastor John's life is that he loves you.
He loves this church. He adores this church, he adores you. He's got such a huge
heart and love for this city, and for this area and for Mission Grove. So can we
just give it up for Pastor John today? Yeah. So good. And he is very funny, but
there's gonna be some differences, OK? Here's some of the differences. He is
much smarter than I am, so he's going to speak differently, right? I'm like a
really layman's terms guy. He's got like this theological prowess that he's
gonna speak to you from. So if you wanted to learn something like you, you know,
like biblically, you really wanna go talk to Pastor John, me, you're like gonna
get hands-on and gritty and you're gonna talk back and we're gonna have fun,
right? OK, you're not ready. All right, no problem. That's all right. We're
gonna get there. Don't worry. The other thing you're gonna notice is he is
wildly taller than I am, so you're gonna have to look at a different place on
the stage. He's so, so tall. Um. So, getting back to peace. A little while ago,
I decided I was gonna be husband of the year. Yes, I know you're laughing
already. I, I didn't even tell you the story. Husband of the year, and here's
how I can be husband of the year. My wife, she wanted very specific things, she
wanted a vanity. Now it's a very special vanity, right? It's like it had certain
drawers and, you know, the makeup goes over here and the brushes go over here
and then you get the mirror and the mirror has like the white tone and the
yellow tone and all these tones. Some of the ladies are nodding, right? Going,
yes, I want that. Some of the guys are like, I have no idea what this is, right?
It's so a very special place where they put on their makeup and they do all this
stuff. And so I was gonna be husband of the year. I was gonna get this very
special vanity. And so I got it, and for Christmas, this thing arrived and it
was gargantuan. It was huge, like they had the. They had to back it in. This
thing is enormous, OK? And then we put it in, and we got this big old box and
I'm like, OK, I'm gonna go all the way with this. I'm gonna wrap it. And so I
took an entire roll of wrapping paper, wrapped the entire thing, and I was like,
I'm gonna go a little further with this. Here's how I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna
get one of those bike bags. And I'm gonna take the bike bag and I'm gonna put it
around. So I made this huge thing taller than the tree. All right, it is in our
living room. She comes out and she loves it. I mean, she sees this thing and she
opens it up and she's just delighted. It's like, oh, it's the vanity. But here's
what else she noticed. It's not set up, it's in pieces. Some of you know where
I'm going. So she knows Tony, OK. She knows her husband, she knows that, you
know, I, when I put things together, I can be a little single-minded. And so I'm
like, all right, this is what's gonna happen. We get to Christmas evening, we
land where we get this place where I'm like, OK, babe, here's how this is gonna
go, OK. I'm gonna start putting together your vanity. She's like, oh honey, I'm
like, no, no, I'm gonna put this together and we're gonna have this beautiful, I
wanna make, yeah, you go make hot cocoa, and we're gonna watch White Christmas,
your favorite movie that we've already watched 17 times for Christmas. How many
people have to watch 17 times of White Christmas and Christmas time? Yeah, how
many guys? I'll pray for you. God bless you. God bless you. And then we have to
watch this through Christmas, so I'm like, we're gonna set the whole scene, it's
gonna be beautiful. And as we set this scene, I'm gonna put together your vanity
because tomorrow morning you're gonna be sitting on it and you're gonna put your
makeup together. Hm, so cozy. It's gonna be peaceful. Sure. All right, so, I'm
about 2 hours in. I've got 192 pieces of this thing spread across the entire
living room. I've got pieces over here that don't make any sense. I'm looking at
the instructions. The instructions look like Egyptian hieroglyphics. There are
no words on the instructions. There is just like arrows. I have little screws
that aren't really screws. They're kind of like bolty things and they put in,
there's like a UFO. that you have to screw the UFO and it kind of hooks onto the
screw. Anybody who's built these before knows what I'm talking about, don't you?
And so I'm like trying to decipher how to put this thing together. Finally, 3
hours in, I finally figured out what the 5th element was. And as I got it in
there, I'm like, I'm putting it, I'm like, I'm still missing. There's a couple
of panels here that don't work. They're, they, where's, how is this going to be?
So she's peaceful, she's coming over. Oh, the movie's just ending. I'm down on
the ground Indian style. My back is killing. I'm looking and trying to figure
this out. She could see I'm stressed. She's like, it's OK. Don't worry about it.
We'll just wait till tomorrow. When she does that, boom, I just blow up, man.
I'm just like, no, that you've got to have this vanity tomorrow. It's your
Christmas gift. And I'm like trying to figure out that this is supposed to go
into here. Now I'm yelling. I'm, it's Christmas, I'm yelling. She's upset. The
dog went running. I haven't seen him since we moved. I mean, so, like,
literally, this is not working, and then I take my hand and I'm like, it's gotta
work. And just like that. I hear a little. I broke her Christmas gift like
within hours of her having it, and she didn't even get to sit in it yet. Church.
I think some of us are doing this in our lives. Yeah. Some of us in our own
lives, we are trying to do this exact same thing. We are trying to force a
peaceful moment. Force peace in our lives. We're trying to force maybe a
peaceful marriage, a peaceful existence, a peaceful career, a peaceful
relationship, a peaceful whatever, fill in the blank, X Y Z. And I gotta tell
you that we're trying to do this with the world's broken instructions that don't
make any sense. Because we think peace is something that you can get when the
circumstances get perfect. But that's not what peace is. We're out there white
knuckling life together in order to scream at our problem and try to control
things and we're never meant to control. That's not what real peace is. We're
gonna look at what peace really is today, but I want you to hear this. At least
hear this. If you get nothing else, if you fall asleep cause I'm that boring
later on, just hear this. You cannot scream your way into serenity. Let's pray.
Father, thank you for this Bible study, this time that we get to look at your
word, Lord, we love your word. Thank you for instructing us, molding us through
it. Jesus, have your way in this place. Holy Spirit, we ask you to do the
speaking today. Get Pastor Tony out of the way and you do the talking. Lord, I
pray this in Jesus' name, all God's people said. Amen and amen. Hey, OK, so
Pastor Tony, you're saying I can't build peace. I can't manipulate my way into
peace. I can't obviously scream my way into serenity. I can't do these things. I
have a very specific thing that I'm doing in order to get peaceful. I need to
get to this. Serene moment so I can have peace. Um, well, that's not real peace.
Real peace comes as a fruit of the spirit. We're gonna look at Galatians 5. You
guys have already heard this several times, but we're gonna do it again. Let's
turn in our Bibles to Galatians 5. And while you're doing that, I want you to
hear kind of some context of where we're going. So, the apostle Paul, he's
writing to the church of Galatia, and he's, he's writing to this church. He
knows that they are obsessed with legalism. They're obsessed with trying to do
everything right, everything right. They're gonna follow strict rules, and if I
follow these rules, if I do everything perfect, I'm going to be able to
manufacture righteousness and that will bring me peace. I'll do everything right
and therefore I'll be peaceful. Kind of sounds like 2026 people right now,
right? You know, if I just do all of this, then I'm gonna get peace. So Paul
actually tells them, hey, you guys are doing all of this stuff. You're working
so hard to get everything right, to gain righteousness, to get peace. And he
says, that's not how it works. If you're a Christian, you've gotten the Holy
Spirit within you, and if you've got the Holy Spirit, you've got these things
called fruits, OK? They're a byproduct of having the Holy Spirit within you.
What are the fruits? Here they are. Galatians 22:23. But the fruit of the Spirit
is what? It is love, joy, peace, long suffering, which is patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. And then he says this, against
such there is no law. I'm gonna follow the law. That's what I'm gonna do. I'm
gonna follow the law. I'm gonna follow the rules. I'm gonna follow everything,
and then I'm gonna get peace and he's like, no, no, no, you're trying to work at
something you're just supposed to have. That should give some people some
freedom right now. Church, look, look at the vocabulary of heaven here. This is
what God is saying. It doesn't say the works of the believer adds to peace. It
doesn't say the, the works of the believer bring you something. No, it says the
fruit of the what? Spirit, the fruit of the Holy Spirit. If the fruit of the
Spirit is what you're looking for, it's not the fruit of Tony. It's not the
fruit of John. It's not the fruit of Stacy or anyone in this room. It's not the
fruit of them. It's not the fruit of your hustle. You can't hustle your way or
rise and grind your way into peace. It doesn't work that way. It's not the fruit
of your self-help books, which makes no sense, by the way, because if you could
help yourself, you wouldn't need a book. That's true. Or think about that. It's
not the fruit of your wellness app. You can't be, you know, like, oh, my watch
tells me I need to be peaceful, inner peace, right? Some of you caught that
reference just now. All right, so, it's not that. Instead, instead, what does it
say? The fruit of the spirit. That's how you gain it. You have it. Are you a
Christian? That's a test. No, I'm just kidding. So do we raise our hands? I
don't know. The fruit of the spirit. I want you to think about this logically. I
know a lot of Phoenix used to be like orchards, right? Used to be orchards. My
mom, she's got her orchard, I call it her orchard. But really, you know, she's
got just 3 really big fruit trees in her backyard. And with those fruit trees,
she's got one that's a grapefruit tree, and those grapefruits are like the size
of melons. They're like huge cantaloupes. And they're ruby red grapefruits. Now,
she leaves the water on 24 days at a time, but that's fine, right? So I mean,
this, this is like huge, right? Now, I want you to think about this grapefruit,
OK? Everybody with me? All right. You guys are with me. All right, think about
this grapefruit. Does the grapefruit tree wake up at 5 a.m. and so it's like,
OK, I'm gonna make this fruit today. Ah, like squish out a grapefruit. Does the
grapefruit have to do that? Does the tree have to do that in order to create
fruit? No, that's right. So since it doesn't have to do that, this is what it's
doing. It's just living its best life now is really what it's doing. It's just
basically doing what it is created for. Follow me, church, what it is created
for. It's just out there, leaves, sun, water, just doing its thing, created to
bring fruit, and it's bringing fruit. Church, we You and I are created. With the
ingredients and ability to produce fruit. We just need the miracle worker to do
it. We need the worker to do it. What? Who is the miracle worker? The fruit of
the what? The Holy Spirit. Man, I tell you, if we would just remember that. If
we could just remember this, stop trying to perform a miracle that only the Holy
Spirit can produce. We would be OK. We're trying to do it ourselves. We're
trying to squish out fruit when the fact is, it's just something that we need to
figure out how to surrender to instead. Some of us are out here trying to
produce fruit on a dead branch. And we're mad at ourselves. Instead, we just
surrender into it, because if we keep doing this, instead of moving towards the
Holy Spirit to produce this fruit, the only thing we're gonna naturally produce
is stress, anxiety and worry. And that is not what God has intended for us.
We're working ourselves to death in order to do something that they, the
Galatians, were going through at the same time. They were trying to work their
way into all the fruits of the Spirit, and he said, look, all you gotta do is
surrender to the fact that the Holy Spirit now runs your life. And do you know
the Holy Spirit? Do you know Christ? Do you know that those fruits are coming
from the miracle worker, but you gotta be connected to him. Look what he says in
John 15:5. I am the vine. This is Jesus speaking. I am the vine. You are the
branches. He who abides, big deal, he who abides in me, and I in him bears much
fruit, for without me, you can do nothing. You catch that? For without me, you
can do nothing. Well, I think I can do it without me, you can do nothing. Hear
me? If you want the supernatural fruit of peace, you have to stop trying to
construct it and buy it and start learning how to abide in it. How do you do
that, pastor? You walk closely with the Holy Spirit. You walk closely and have
relationship. To abide in Christ means you are in relationship with Jesus. Are
you in relationship with Jesus? Do you know him in that way? To abide in Christ,
which means you know his word. You read his word daily, you speak to him daily,
you listen to the Holy Spirit daily. I pray daily, I listen to instructions
daily. I meditate on his word. You're like, God never speaks to me. Well, I gave
you 66 books. I'm just saying if you want peace, you gotta know the one who's
gonna give you peace, and then it becomes a byproduct that you don't have to
work for. Does that make sense? Everybody follow me? OK, good. So what does this
look like when it's fully alive? What does this look like? We always go to who?
We always go to Jesus, cause Jesus is the one that modeled it, right? So we go
to Jesus. Jesus' model is this. I'm gonna have you turn to Mark chapter 4, and
I'm just gonna, before we put the verses up or anything, I'm just gonna kinda
paraphrase through this section and get you to the verses that I wanna get to.
So what's going on in this story where we see Jesus says, hey, I wanna go to the
other side of the lake. So he tells the disciples, we're gonna go to the other
side of the lake, we're gonna go to the other side over there to the sea. And as
we're going and doing this, that it says that the Bible says that a furious
squall came up. A furious squall. Anybody ever use that vernacular in their
life? Wow, looks like a furious squall out there. No. But what we would call it,
right? We would be like, I, I, I think around here, what would you call it? A
monsoon, right? Like a monsoon came through, some of you would call it a haboob,
which is just fun, right? Not fun when you're in the sandstorm. Looks like the
mummy coming through. So here he is, this furious squall is happening. The wind
and waves are going, everything is happening, and the, these guys who are on the
boat with Jesus, they are the disciples. Who are the disciples? Do, do you, do
you know that some of them, what they did, what their profession was? Some of
them were fishermen, fishermen. Fishermen are on the boat, and it says they
start freaking out. They're panicking, they're yelling, they're trying to find,
we gotta go find Jesus, and they go to find Jesus. Where do they find Jesus? On
a pillow, sleeping. On a pillow sleeping. They're freaking, these profe these
professional fishermen, OK. They've been on the water their whole lives. OK.
They're freaking out. This is what I'm calling a hurricane, OK? They're in the
middle. The boat is filling up with water, and Jesus is sleeping. They're like,
Jesus, Jesus, they wake him up. Don't you care that we're perishing? We're
dying, we're basically gonna drown? And what happens? Jesus is like, uh. Wakes
up And he tells the wind and the waves to be quiet. Let's look what it says.
Mark 4:39, starting there in 40. Then he arose, and he rebuked the wind and said
to the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But
look what he says to the disciples. But he said to them, Why are you so fearful?
Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? Ouch. Ouch. These guys
have been with Jesus. They know who he is. They find him asleep. How is it that
you have no faith? Listen carefully me church. The disciples thought peace meant
the absence of a storm. Jesus rises up from that cushion to prove that real
peace is the presence of God in the middle of it. That's real peace You want
real peace? Put God in the middle of your storm. Put God in his rightful place.
No matter what you're going through, put him in the middle of it. The next time
you're in a stressful situation, just remember whose presence is in that storm
with you and put him in his rightful place over it. God will be with you in the
storm. The fruit of the spirit is peace, and that peace is possible when you
surrender and know who's in it with you. He's not gonna save you from the storm,
he's gonna walk with it, with you in it. Jesus didn't get a weather report, like
look at the radar and be like, OK, I'm, I'm good to fall asleep here because the
storm is not gonna be here. He stepped onto the deck in power, stepped onto the
deck with the power of the Holy Spirit, having full peace within him, knowing
that he was peaceful and that no matter what the circumstances were on the
outside, he was peaceful on the inside and he looked at that category 5
hurricane and said, go sit in the corner. You cannot speak peace to a storm in
your life if you're allowing the storm to dictate the condition of your heart
instead of Jesus. Where have you been doing that? I know I've done it. I've done
it a ton. I've let a vanity take me out, right? I'm screaming at particle board.
If you're gonna let your bank account, your medical report, your family drama,
or your baby mama dictate the the condition of your heart, then you need some
real peace today, and there's peace possible. Don't let the storm win. Jesus
modeled that perfectly. The Holy Spirit completely overrode the external chaos
of the world. And look what he says to us. This is why he said to them, hey,
hey, where's your faith? Look what he says to us. John 14:27. Peace, I leave
you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives to you, I give to you, sir,
excuse me, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be afraid. He does not give as the world gives. He does
not, because the world gives us conditional peace. The world tells us as long as
your circumstances are perfect and everything goes right, you can be peaceful.
He gives us supernatural peace. Supernatural peace means even when everything
goes wrong, I'm peaceful. I wonder how many people are living in that today. I
mean, how many people honestly have gone on a vacation where they thought
everything was just gonna be amazing and something went wrong on the vacation?
Show of hands. Mhm, right? Always something. Something comes up. Are you letting
that storm dictate? Your life. I know for me, most of my uh young adult life, I,
I, I had a large amount of time where I was anything but peaceful and anything
but knowing Jesus. BC Tony, before Christ Tony, uh, had a, had a pretty big
addiction in his life. Before that addiction, where it came from was, uh, there
was chaos in my upbringing. As as I was raised, my father was a hitter, he was a
yeller. Um, he was constantly one of those people that just made you feel
unwanted, and then he proved what he meant, uh, when he made you feel that way
because on the day he left, I was 10 years old, he said, I never wanted you
anyway, and that's the last thing he said to me. So as he said that, um, my
world kind of caved in around me. Things were different. Um, I spent a lot of my
life, especially in my early years, trying to prove myself as being worthy. I
wanted people to love me. I wanted people to accept me and to want me in their
life. And so, um, I went into this great business, it's called the entertainment
business, where the entire time you try to get people to want you. Um. I was in
a storm, but really, most of it was me. I was the storm. And so I wound up being
pretty good at entertainment. I wound up moving to Las Vegas. Uh, Vegas is a
great place. It's the mecca of entertainment. There's every kind of
entertainment there. It also happens to be a mecca of something else. It's
called sin. So I got into a lot of that, um, and it was very easy to get
addicted. I wound up being that guy who was the smoking, drinking, gambling
Tony. And that was my life. Uh, the best part of Vegas was I met my wife Stacy
there, and as I, I met her, I, I, things were great, but we lived that
lifestyle. And as we lived that lifestyle, um, just the world around us was a
little different. We were not Christians. We loved Vegas, we loved it. We had a
great time there. But as uh my addictions got worse, along the way, things got
hard and our marriage got tougher and tougher for her to stay in. Along the way,
actually, there was this great moment where, um, I say, we wound up in church,
rather than going to church. We wound up in church because we met this showgirl
friend of ours and she said, hey, will you go to church on Easter with me? The
pastor asked us to ask everybody to go. And so we wound up going to church. I
hated it because I was convicted the entire time, but she loved it. And she
said, hey, I really want to do this again. I want to go back to church. And so I
made a deal with her. I'm like, OK, I'll go gamble after church as long as, as
long as I'll go to church with you, but then I get to go gamble after church,
and she was like, OK, deal. And, uh, cause she knew something was going to
happen and she was right. So we went to church for 4 years, 4 years with me like
this, not like this guy right up front, ready to go, right? No. Like I'm the guy
in the back with the sunglasses on. Seriously, 4 years like this. Checking my
watch. In the middle of all that, I call it dripper method Jesus. The living
word was getting in. And so from 2004 to 2008, I kinda dealt with my addictions,
but, uh, they all were still there. And in the middle of that, my wife gets
saved and then now I'm like, OK, now I've got a Christian wife. We are unequally
yoked in every way, like I don't believe in the things she believed. I am not a
Christian, and this things got bad. They got really, really bad. And I wound up
on this show in 2008 called Nashville Star. It was like a country version of
American Idol. And uh, I come back 3 weeks later, I think I'm gonna win, but I
come back 3 weeks later, and at 3 weeks, I, I come back and I say, why did God
even let me have the show if I wasn't gonna win? And it hit me. I believe in
God. And I believe in his power over my life. And everything in my life that's
wrong is his fault. That's where I went. And so I dove all into my addictions. I
was like the worst guy ever. I started being terrible to everybody, really,
really terrible to my wife. And it got to a place where she was getting ready to
leave me. Um, in fact, I was waiting for those divorce papers any second. I knew
I deserved it. Then through all that, here's come, here comes the crazy Jesus
freak ant. And she was legitimately a Jesus freak, so you can say that, right?
So she was a Jesus freak aunt and she comes and she says, no, you you you you
can't leave your husband, Stacy. You have a very real enemy and Tony is not his
name. And so she starts to do this thing called the love dare. I had no idea.
She starts to do this thing called the love dare. And it's like 40 days where
you're being kind to your spouse, loving on your spouse, doing great things, uh,
praying for them, serving them, and I'm thinking, wow, this is great. I beat
her. All right? Like I, I'm gonna, she's gonna drop church, she's gonna do
everything I say. And instead, what happened was my heart wind up slowly
starting to change. But I was fighting and resisting it. And then in 2009,
basically I was sitting at a table, I'm drunk out of my mind, I'm playing
machines and I'm smoking and I'm going along and then In this moment I felt
dirty. I looked around and everything else was kind of dirty. And it was just
this glimpse of what God did not want for me. In the next second, I realized. I
was sober. I hadn't been sober in 10 years. I said, I want to be clean. I don't
want to do this anymore. I threw over the drinks, crushed up the cigarettes, and
cashed out and ripped up the ticket and I said, I'm done. I I I want to be
clean. And I left that casino, and I never looked back. And I've been clean
since 2009. God delivered me in a single, all glory to God. God delivered me in
a single moment with a purpose. He reached down into my hurricane, and he said,
peace be still. I've got a plan for your life. And you know what? All those
people that you've been trying to impress, Tony, all those people that you've
been trying to get them to love you, I have always loved you and I always will.
And I devoted my life to him from that moment on. I actually wound up going to
church. We have a little bit more time. I wound up going to church, uh, you
know, we, hey, we were going to church here and there, but I was in the back,
right, with my sunglasses on. Once again, not like this guy. All right? And so
I'm in front just like this guy. I'm in front, but this time I'm in front. I'm
worshiping, I'm ugly crying. I'm like. of God, right, I'm all in. I'm on the
ground, I'm praying and just, it was palpable, like the, the, the worship team
was like, OK, something happened with this guy. And so right after they're like,
what do you do? you know, what's going on? And I told them my testimony of what
happened and they're like, man, what are you gonna do? And I said, I need to
respond. Isn't that true in your life when something happens in your life that
you need to respond? And so I needed to respond. I said, what, what, what can I
do? And they're like, what do you do? What can you do? And I was like, I, I sing
pretty good. They're like, alright, audition, and I went into, got the audition,
and my first day, y'all, my first day on stage leading worship. I would never do
this as a worship pastor, by the way, but, and my first day leading worship was
Easter 2009, 1st day ever, and I was up there talking about how I surrender.
What God had done from that moment on, right? Now moved into 16 years of
ministry to this place. What God had done in that moment is he took my storm. I
met Jesus, and I turned around and went a different direction. I did something
called a 180, right? And I went and told Totally different direction and my life
has been better ever since. I have been living in love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness and self-control ever since
because God changed my life, radically transformed me in that moment, took my
storm and said, quiet. That's what happened. So why are we calling the church
180? That's why I wanted to call it repent Church. And then everybody said, I'm
not going to that church. And that was my mom. She was like, how you going? You
see, all through scripture, God tells us that real change. Happens when we
repent, that when we do that 180. Watch this video. Hi, we're Tony and Stacey
Mossy, and we are so excited to be opening 180 Church right here in the
Northwest Valley. Our name, 180, it comes from a simple but powerful truth that
God is in the business of turnarounds. And throughout Scripture, God called His
people to turn. In the Old Testament, God would send prophets who would cry out
for Israel to turn back to the Lord. John the Baptist, his message was also very
simple, repent, which literally means to turn. And when Jesus began his
ministry, he did it with the same thing, repent, enter. And when the church was
born in the Church of Acts, Peter stood up and said, what? repent and turn to
God and be baptized. That is what 180 Church is all about, helping people to
turn, to turn from brokenness, to turn from religion without life, to turn
towards Jesus, the one who can actually change everything. We believe God is
writing a brand new story in the Northwest Valley, and we want you to be part of
this turnaround movement too, because when you turn to Him, He can turn your
life around just like he turned our life around. Join us soon at 180 Church.
Yeah, that's good. It's good. So 180, that's where it's coming from. We turned,
he turned our lives around and we devoted our lives to him. Like I said, 16
years later, he's asked us to plan a church. We know ministry. But we know the
savior better. And so even without ministry, we, we would be serving him, we
would be doing something, we would respond in this way because he changed
everything. Has he done that in your life? Think about that moment when he's
done that. What is it that's in you? That maybe you haven't surrendered yet,
that you're still trying to white knuckle your way into peace. What is it that's
still troubling you, ailing you, moving you towards sin instead of moving you
towards Jesus? What is it that you need to do 180 in? So we, Stacy and I and and
and our crew, we have a, we have a heart, a dis holy discontent for those who
think things are going great. On the outside, like, like we lived in Vegas. I
mean, we, we, we were doing great. We had great jobs, we had big incomes, big
house, great cars. And we were miserable inside We had a big God-shaped hole in
our heart, and we didn't know it till Jesus got involved and filled it. And
everything changed. Is that where you're at today? 180 Church is gonna be a
rescue station for people who will come to that place where they say, hey,
That's me Things in this world are going OK. But man, I got flawed instructions
and I just can't seem to find peace. I'm trying to be more patient, but I'm
terrible at it. I wish I was more loving or my spouse was more loving to me. I
would love to know what joy really looks like. Cause I'm angry all the time. If
that's you, can I just say you're, you're in the right place? You're, you're in
a place that's gonna tell you all about the miracle worker who can change
everything for you, just like he changed our lives. If you look around us right
now in this room, go ahead and look around. Some people may not tell you. But
they're frustrated with something. Culture is messed up and they're, they're,
they're upset about it. Politics, don't get me started. Social media is a
dumpster fire. Look at me. Everything's perfect. The Church, hear me on this. If
the church looks just as stressed out and panicked and messed up and angry and
fractured as the world was all the time. If we don't have those fruits of the
spirit evident, what's gonna happen is the outside world is gonna look at us and
go, what do you have to offer? Did you know that 60% of Phoenix is unchurched?
60% of Phoenix doesn't have a faith. And that number, we don't want it to grow.
We need more churches, amen. We need more places that are gonna help people find
and follow Jesus. More people that are gonna talk about the fact that, hey,
chaos is out there. But not in here. We are not called to reflect the chaos of
culture. We are called to reflect the peace of Christ. I wonder if you know that
today. You can do that if you know him, because if you know him, And this is
what he says, Isaiah 26:3, you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is
stayed on you, because he trusts you. Do you trust Jesus today? Has everybody in
this room done that? Hey, you know, can we do something here? I know I'm a guest
and I'm, I'm probably going over time, but can we do something here? Can we just
close our eyes, bow our heads. Take this moment to Just be real. Think about
that thing that you have not let go of, that you've not surrendered, that is not
giving you peace. That you still have lingering all the time and it's just in
the back of your mind that it just won't quit. Or it's a part of your life that
you've just not let go of, and you know it's not good for you. And it keeps
winding up being something that's terrorizing that piece that Jesus wants for
you. Can you see it? If you're dealing with a storm in your life and you don't
know what that piece is, will you just be brave in this moment and nobody's
looking, just me. Will you raise your hand right now if you're dealing with a
storm in your life so we can pray for you? I see you, I see you. I see you, I
see you. God bless you in the back. I see you. I see you. Anybody else? Anybody
else dealing with that storm? Hey, let's pray for that real quick. Lord God, I I
know that there's storms in all of our lives. But you're the one that can calm
that storm. Lord, I pray for peace, for the people who just were brave enough to
raise their hand, the ones who are dealing with something that just feels
impossible. You're Lord, you're a miracle worker. Work your miracle in their
life right now. Let them leave this place and see you. Calm the storm. Jesus'
name I pray.
